Reporting a problem

A good report can be fixed quickly. Please include:

  1. Your device and system, for example “iPhone 16, iOS 27” or “MacBook Air M2, macOS 27” (Settings ▸ General ▸ About on iPhone and iPad; Apple menu ▸ About This Mac on the Mac).
  2. The app’s version: on the Mac, Hermeneus ▸ About Hermeneus; on iPhone and iPad, Settings ▸ General ▸ iPhone (or iPad) Storage ▸ Hermeneus.
  3. What you did, step by step, and the passage, word or search you were on (for example “tapped ἱλασμός in 1 John 2:2”).
  4. What you expected, and what happened instead.
  5. A screenshot, if you can.

For a problem with an imported PDF, say what kind of file it is (a scan or a born-digital PDF, how many pages, which languages). Please don’t attach a copyrighted PDF; a description, or a page you made yourself, is enough.

For a mistake in a text or a lexicon, give the reference or the headword and the lexicon’s name.

Things to try first

  • Something looks stuck: on the Mac, View ▸ Reload; on iPhone and iPad, close the app from the app switcher and open it again. Your notes and settings are kept.
  • OCR is slow: scans are read on the device, a few seconds a page or more on older iPhones. Leave the app open until it finishes.
  • Hebrew OCR is poor: pointed Hebrew is read with some vowels lost, and Hebrew with cantillation marks is read badly. This is a limit of the OCR models, not of your file.
  • The welcome or tour: see how to show them again.
